Steve Crawshaw is the former UK Director at Human Rights Watch, former Director of the Office of the Secretary-General at Amnesty International, and former Chief Foreign Correspondent at The Independent. In 2018, he became Policy and Advocacy Director at Freedom from Torture. He is an author; his latest book, Prosecuting the Powerful: War Crimes and the Battle for Justice, published in February 2025, explores the history of war crimes, genocide, and those responsible for them. His previous books cover a wide range of topics, including the USSR, Germany, creative protest, and social resistance.
