Episode Description

In this episode of Conversations on Genocide, host Emily speaks with Inna Kulenska, Chief Operating Officer at the Babyn Yar Holocaust Memorial Center, about the 1941 massacre at Babyn Yar where over 33,000 Jews were killed in one of the largest massacres of the Holocaust. They discuss the center's efforts to reconstruct victims' identities through archival research and digitization, the challenges of preserving cultural memory amid the ongoing war in Ukraine, and why remembrance is an active, ongoing process essential to preventing future genocides.

Inna Kalenska is Chief Operating Officer of the Babyn Yar Holocaust Memorial Center in Kyiv. She holds a Master's degree in Art History and has over 7 years of experience in cultural institutions and non-profit organizations, working on archival digitization, international institutional partnerships, and exhibitions. Her work concerns how historical narratives are shaped, interpreted, and communicated in contemporary contexts.
